Today, Scott and Louie stopped by to work on the lower section of the handrail. It took them 5.5 hours to get this far. The starter step is 2" more shallow than the standard size, and because of this, the stock pieces from LJSmith took some major reworking to fit.

I've written this comment 2 times, and it just doesn't show up!
What I wanted to know was what's left to do?
Not much is left. The handrail, obviously, but after that, just tiny things. The air return for the AC is still missing a cover, which should be coming this week. I think the side splashes in the laundry room sink are not caulked yet. The hallway downstairs has to be painted, which is not really part of the addition but was necessitated by the addition (the two spaces are contiguous and have to match).
That's about it really. I think there are a couple of inspections left, we don't have our certificate of occupancy yet. But we've been living in the new space for 2 weeks now, so I think that is a formality. All 4 kids are upstairs in their new rooms, and my house is returning to normal, slowly but surely.
Our next project is decorating and setting up my office, in Hannah's old room. We ordered a couch which should be coming any day now. We have to pick a paint color, and Dave is building me a desk. And we have to retile that bathroom upstairs, which is pretty nasy.
Other than that... we just have to pay off our credit cards so we can start saving up for that new kitchen!
