ughhh... failed the insulation inspection

Who fails an insulation inspection?

Well we did. The insulators put R30 in the ceiling and R13 in the walls, but the architect drawings specified R38 and R15, foil faced. We failed - not because R13/R30 isn't good enough, but because the installed insulation does not match the architect's speficications. So to fix this, our architect says he'll write a letter to the town saying it's ok to use the R13/R30.

The sheetrockers are scheduled to come on Tuesday, so if he faxes the letter they'll give us tentative approval and we can still keep to that schedule.

Mamma mia! Hillsborough's zoning laws are stricter than Waterford's, which are strict enough!

when I saw the title, my first thought was "how do you fail an insulation inspection?". And now I know.

And Anna, just you wait until we go through inspections...rumor has it that Montgomery County is routinely failing people just to make it look like they're doing something, to make up for some egregious instances of when they weren't doing anything. Can't wait.

If there's a way to fail an inspection, Hillsborough will find it. That's why they call it Hellsborough.

No letter from the architect yet (not that I expect him to drop everything for this dumb letter), and I'm getting nervous. If we lose these sheetrocker's, who knows how long it will be till we can reschedule them. They were here this morning to measure - so they're good to go next week.

And I really want to have the house done in time to hold the end-of-season party for our softball team. Walls painted, carpets installed, kids moved back upstairs, basement rec room reclaimed - all in 22 days.

Think we can do it?
