backsplash

Dave and I put in the tile backsplash last weekend. We used Marazzi Montagna Belluno 6x6 tiles from Home Depot. We got it all done in one 12-hour day. Grouting comes next. I'm a little aprehensive because we used a porcelain tile with "pits" and a stamped design, and I don't want to get grout in the depressions. I have been googling for various techniques, but we will just have to see how it comes out.
ETA: Dave pointed out that I spelled "backsplash" wrong in the title. .. had to fix it!

Just dribble the grout into the tile spaces with a pastry bag or grout gun and then seal the grout using a paintbrush.

Here are ideas for tile mural installations , tips on framing the tiles and using field tiles to coordinate with the mural.. Considering the use of found vintage labels and a great way to showcase retro art.

Can't wait to see it in person! Good luck with the grout.

That backslash looks a lot like ours. Good job!

Yes it is a lot like yours - kind of the stone look. I just finished grouting the pantry area and it took me 6 hours. It is painstaking - I decided to go with the masking tape technique (taping over each tile with masking tape so the grout only goes in the spaces). I had gone and bought a grout bag, as per Alicia's advice (no one at HD had heard of a grout gun), and it worked ok but as the grout dried in the tip it became hard to squeeze, so I abandoned it. I did buy a small float ("margin float") and applied the grout with that, or sometimes with a plastic knife, rather than the full-sized float. I am sure this is more tedious than it needs to be, but it is working. What I managed to finish came out pretty well.

You're taping each tile??? Yikes! You've definitely got more patience than I do, Anita!

Yes, the taping takes forever. That is the slowest part. But I tried to do a section without taping, and it took even longer to clean the grout off the tiles *without* pulling the grout out of the grout lines. I decided it was ultimately easier to tape off each tile. I'm sure this is not how it is really supposed to be done.
